Mission Statement

The Friends of the Keremeos Skating Rink is dedicated to making skating accessible for all children in our community through free passes, financial aid, and inclusive recreation opportunities. We believe that every child deserves the chance to experience the physical, social, and emotional benefits of ice skating, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.

Why It Matters

Physical activity during childhood is crucial for healthy development. Ice skating offers unique benefits including cardiovascular fitness, balance and coordination, strength building, and mental focus.

Beyond physical health, skating provides opportunities for social connection, builds self-confidence, teaches perseverance, and creates lasting memories and friendships.

Unfortunately, the costs associated with skating—including registration fees, equipment, and lessons—can create barriers that prevent some children from participating. Our mission is to eliminate these barriers.

We are committed to promoting active living as a cornerstone of childhood health and development. Regular physical activity helps children maintain healthy weight, build strong bones and muscles, improve cardiovascular fitness, and develop motor skills.

Skating is an excellent form of active recreation that engages the entire body while being enjoyable and social. By making skating accessible, we encourage lifelong habits of physical activity and outdoor recreation.

Inclusive Recreation

Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that recreation opportunities should be available to all children, regardless of economic status, ability level, or background. No child should be excluded from community activities due to financial constraints.

Our programs are designed to welcome children at all skill levels, from beginners taking their first steps on the ice to those developing advanced skating abilities. We create a supportive environment where every child feels valued and encouraged.
